The owners and operators of Dunn Transmissions have proudly lived, worked, and worshiped right here in East Texas since the automatic transmission first appeared in cars.
During World War II, Truman H. Dunn worked as a mechanic at Camp Fannin. While serving in the Army, he learned about a groundbreaking automotive innovation—the automatic transmission. Fascinated by this new technology, Mr. Dunn opened a small garage at his home, spending his free hours repairing cars.
After the war, Mr. Dunn recognized the future of the automatic transmission and specialized exclusively in its repair, officially naming his shop Dunn's Transmission Shop. In the 1950s, the business moved from his home to our current location on Gaston Street.
Around 1970, long-time employee Ewell Dickerson purchased Dunn Transmissions. Under his leadership, the business expanded significantly, eventually occupying the entire 1400 block of West Erwin Street and employing many East Texans.
Today, Ewell's nephew, Roscoe Dickerson, who has worked at the shop since high school in the 1980s, proudly owns Dunn Transmissions. Roscoe is dedicated to carrying forward our longstanding tradition of honesty, ethics, and professionalism.
